The goal of this program

Our hope is to build a generation of young women who support many causes, including those issues affecting women and girls. Young Women for Change (YWFC) is designed to assist high school girls with decision making skills and to understand social change as it relates to community problems for women and girls. The girls work as a team to determine and be a part of the solution. YWFC also has an overarching focus on empowerment and leadership.

Why encourage leadership in girls?

Leadership adds to a young girl’s feeling of self-worth. Through supporting a cause she believes in, she empowers herself. She will have the positive experiences of feeling she is making a difference in her community, practicing decision-making by choosing a cause to contribute time and talent to; gain self-understanding from reflecting on what causes she truly believes in; and learning to manage money. Developing leadership skills also promotes social awareness and good citizenship. A girl may learn about social problems she was previously unaware of and take responsibility for helping create positive change.
